Coach Resources

Attention Track Coaches!

  • The EPTFA officials will form the track and field teams
  • Each team will consist of kids from the same current grade in school
  • Parents must receive special permission from the EPTFA Board of Directors in order to move a child outside his/her current grade
  • Kids outside of the Eden Prairie school district are permitted to participate upon EPTFA Board of Directors approval
  • Parents/Coaches must put in a special request for kids to be on specific teams (i.e., same team as friends, or coaches)
  • Each team will consist of up to 12 members
  • Each team will be led by a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach
  • These coaches are volunteers from the community, including parents, grandparents, and other track & field enthusiasts
  • The EPTFA has designated a board member as the Coaches' Coordinator who will assign coaches to teams, as well as give direction and training to the coaches

 

Volunteer Position

Job Description

Head Coach

l        Responsible for managing the assigned EPTFA team and coaching staff throughout the season

l        Acts as team lead coach, teacher, track enthusiast, communicator, and parent contact

l        Provide regular communication to the team (kids & parents) throughout the season (i.e., pre-season announcements, coaching tips, weekly announcements, team meetings, parent meetings)

l        Conduct team awards ceremonies, athlete recognition, organize team participation at meets, gather team meet results, record team progress

l        Ensure fun and excitement at practices and meets

l        Teach good sportsmanship

l        Follow direction of the EPTFA Coaches Coordinator

l        Team/Parent/Coach liaison to EPTFA Coaches Coordinator and Board of Directors

l        Help with set-up and clean-up at each practice and meet

l        Provide feedback to EPTFA for program improvements

l        Delegate responsibilities to assistant coach(es) and team manager to ensure the above takes place

l        Required to attend a Coaching Certification Clinic hosted by EPTFA, or special arrangements made with the EPTFA Coaches Coordinator

l        Required to be a member of USA Track & Field Association (see Coaches Coordinator for details)

l        Must abide by the rules and policies set forth by the EPTFA Board of Directors and the USATF association to ensure a SAFE, SECURE, and POSITIVE experience for each participant

Assistant Coach

l        Assist head coach as team teacher and track enthusiast

Team Manager

l        Work with both the head and assistant coaches to ensure consistent communication and administration of the team activities

l        Examples:  snack assignments, Team Picture Day, meet results, team meeting locations (consistent for each practice and meet), team name, help with parent participation at team meetings, team socials, distribution of team uniforms, additional EPTFA merchandise, EPHS & CMS track meet schedules
